Granite is a naturally occurring rock formed from crystals of quartz (up to 50%), feldspar and other minerals to form an unusually firm and enduring stone that weighs about 2.6 times the same volume of water (2.7g/cc). Typically it's used in building, and for monuments and ornamental work. Within the UK, Aberdeen is known for its granite buildings. Granite is commonly found in mountainous areas around the world. Silestone is made from 93% quartz combined with resins to form a dense surfacing material that retains the hardness and crystal-like look of quartz but with some superior qualities, for instance it does not require sealing and it has greater heat, scratch and stain resistance than natural stone. It is also more colour consistent and is available in a wide range of colour alternatives. Silestone is a perfect alternative surfacing material for kitchen countertops, flooring, wall facings and more. Click to see SileStone samples.
Slate is a naturally occuring rock that's easy to maintain, doesn't require sealing, doesn't stain, and is non-slip. Slate is about 400 million years old.
A template is an exact replica in wood of the required worktop, including all the cut-outs (for instance for hobs or sinks), all shaping and the right overhang. When you are happy with that we take it away and manufacture your stone (granite, slate or SileStone) worktop based on the template. If the wood fits, the granite will too (and we take responsibility if it doesn't).
